Do you do cover ups?Sometimes, it depends on what tattoo you would like to be covered up and with what design. There are many factors to take into consideration when covering a tattoo. As the only thing that will properly cover black is black! Although using colours such as blues and purples can work because they are thick pigments, using reds, oranges and yellows tend not to work because they are thin and translucent pigments and allow the old tattoo to show through. More often than not, grey shade is not suitable for cover ups for similar reasons to the reds, oranges and yellows, but if you don’t like the idea of colour then a ‘true grey’ can be an option. This is a mix of black and white ink, rather than a wash like grey shade. Please keep in mind that it's not like painting a wall, where a couple coats and the old colour is gone, the tattoos inks are sat in the skin at similar layers, so that’s part of why they are so tricky. The new design will have to be bigger than your existing tattoo to make sure it can be covered effectively and we may need some creative license with the design you have in mind to make it work. Something to consider when it comes to cover ups is to get the tattoo lasered first, as lightening it up will give you so many more options when it comes to covering! To find out if your tattoo can be covered, we ask that you send over a clear, straight picture of your existing tattoo (in natural light, so we can get a good idea of how dark your tattoo is) along with any and all ideas you have to cover it with. Then we can let you know if something like that would be possible and if so, what changes may need to be made to the design for it to be suitable.
